Pet Play 101: Roles, Communication & Consent
October 31, 2:15 pm–3:30 pm MDT
This beginner-friendly class explores the roles of handlers, trainers, and owners, highlighting their differences, similarities, and how each can support a critter’s experience. We will discuss pet headspace, including when pets become partially or fully non-verbal, and explore effective ways to communicate through cues, signals, and body language.
The class also emphasizes the importance of negotiation, consent, boundaries, and ongoing communication before, during, and after play. Participants will learn practical tools for handling situations as they arise and building safe, healthy, and fulfilling pet play dynamics based on trust and mutual respect.
